Holistic Tribal Development Project

The Holistic Tribal Development Project was sponsored by the National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD) and carried out with tribal hamlets (hadis).

Planning began with the community rather than for it. Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) exercises were used to map local needs and resources with residents, findings were taken back to the hamlet for feedback, and Village Development Committees were formed to carry decisions forward.

Activities

  • Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) exercises with hamlet residents.
  • PRA-based planning sessions to set local priorities.
  • Feedback meetings presenting the PRA findings back to the community.
  • Formation and meetings of Village Development Committees (VDCs).
  • Crop demonstrations to introduce improved practices.
  • Training sessions for community members.
