Productivity Enhancement in Coconut Gardens

Oasis Foundation implemented a productivity enhancement programme in coconut gardens through integrated approaches, funded by the Coconut Development Board.

The project combined soil health improvement, non-chemical pest management and direct input support to growers, delivered through demonstrations so that practices could be seen and repeated by farmers in their own gardens.

Activities

  • Meetings with the Coconut Development Committee to plan and review the work with growers.
  • Distribution of inputs to participating farmers.
  • Green manuring with sun hemp to build soil fertility and organic matter.
  • Demonstration of manure application in the gardens.
  • Demonstration and installation of pheromone traps for pest management.
